The cold snap in the area means more people will turn up the heat, which means those electric bills may go through the roof.
For Washington Utilities customers, that could be an added strain to their wallets. Two to three hundred customers a month are delinquent on their bills. And with this cold snap, Washington Utilities expects that problem to get worse.
The city has revamped its policies to help customers by offering payment assistance plans, extensions and flexible payments.
The Department of Social Services also has a crisis intervention program which has run out of funds, but we're told the state is talking about releasing more money due to the increased need for assistance.
