Wilson Arts Center To Show MLK Pics By Local Photographer

A North Carolina photographer has decided to show 20 photos he took in the days after Martin Luther King's assassination.

The Wilson Daily Times reports Burk Uzzle will show the black-and-white photographs at the Wilson Arts Center starting Wednesday.

Uzzle was on another assignment in April 1968 when King was killed in Memphis, Tenn.

His says his wife met him at the airport with a ticket to Memphis and some film.

Uzzle was allowed in with family and friends to see King's body. That picture ended up on the cover of Newsweek.

He followed the body to Atlanta, taking pictures of King's funeral.

Uzzle says he was doing his job at the time, but looking at the photos after more than 40 years is powerful.
