Mother Sentenced For Putting Son In Boiling Water

A 22-year-old North Carolina woman who put her toddler in boiling water and burned his foot with a cigarette has been sentenced to prison.

Media outlets reported Tuesday that Tabitha Rich pleaded guilty to two felony counts of inflicting serious injury to her then-33-month-old son. She received a 25- to 39-month sentence on each, to run consecutively.

Prosecutors said Rich put her son in a pan of boiling water in October 2008 as punishment because he was constipated. He was treated for third-degree burns on his bottom. He had a cigarette burn on his left foot and other injuries.

Rich was ordered to have no contact with her son and to receive parenting training.

Lock her up and spay her like the animal she is. Really parenting classes? Talk about being out of touch with reality. Maybe when she gets out she can babysit for you.

I'm not siding with this woman over what she did to this baby. I didn't say anything bad about the black man that stabbed another adult on bus. I just posted the meaning of Thug, a person, often a criminal, who treats others violently and roughly, especially for hire. Often a member of a gang, as an enforcer in organized crime. Thanks DSR for speaking the truth. And to who recently typed message to me, I don't downplay what I see people do and what they've become in life. I was a bad person myself at one time but God saved me and he can save anyone else who turns to Him asking forgiveness. This black guy will remain a thug unless he repents. Same goes to this child abuser. God forgives and sorry if you think I condemned this guy but, he will remain what he is until he repents and turns. I use to be a drunkard, liar, cheat etc..but thank God he turned me around and made something great out of my life. No confusion here just see things for what they are and hope for the best.

To, US Citizen for Now: You pray for the sinner, I'll pray for the innocent (22 month old) child victim. I'll pray that she never has another child, never again sees the child that she burned, and that she pays for this crime for the rest of her life.

Thank you judge, you really came down on this poor woman. Did the fact that she put her son in hot water and burned him with a cigarette ever enter into your very small, small brain. Then you (judge) forbid her around the child, but want her to take parenting classes, have you lost what brain matter you have? You judge are a disgrace.

Are you kidding me??? Parenting classes!!! How about hysterectomy! She puts her child in boiling water as punishment for something that he could not help and she gets a slap on the wrist. Who in the he** was the judge. You have got to be kidding me...I say an eye for an eye. let's stick her in boiling water and let her think about her crime...

What the Lord does with her when she gets to Him is outside the scope of this story. However I do believe we should expedite that meeting. If it were up to me (and I suppose perhaps it's for the best that it isn't) I would bring back courthouse hangings and make severe child abuse (such as this) a capital offense. At the very least, the abusive parent should forfeit all rights to the child (and the child put up for adoption if the innocent parent won't toss the guilty one out) and be sterilized. Will people stop engaging in deviant behavior against children if we do less? Clearly not...
