Group Says Californians Could Vote On Pot In 2010

A group campaigning to put a marijuana legalization measure before California voters says it has enough signatures to qualify for the 2010 ballot.

Oakland medical marijuana entrepreneur Richard Lee said Monday the measure has far more than the nearly 434,000 signatures needed to make the November 2010 ballot.

Campaign organizers say they will submit the signatures to the California Secretary of State next month for validation.

The proposal would legalize possession of up to one ounce of marijuana for California adults 21 and older. Residents could cultivate marijuana gardens up to 25 square feet. Local governments would determine whether to permit marijuana sales within their boundaries.

Well it is about time. Seems like the majority of people that I see comment on stories related to the legalization of MJ are 95% in favor. The most compelling reason I see everyone post is alcohol and pot are close to the same thing in effects and what it is used for. NC will be way behind the times as we are smack in the middle of the bible belt. BUT I think once Cal. gets this rolling and other states see the $$$REVENUE$$$ generated by pot for the state pouring in then I really see more states hopping right on the bandwagon. I mean a license to carry a license to grow I would not mind paying these things if pot were legal. It would give our farmers somthing to grow since tobacco it seems is on its way out. Almost every aspect of the legalization of MJ is a win-win for not only the people but also the local state and national gov. I am not a fan of the gov. but we got to somehow repay this debt Obama has sunk us into and here is a good as place as any to start. FIRE IT UP

Not saying its right or wrong; but if alchohol is leagal so should pot. The only differences between the 2 is one you smoke and one you drink. Only the one you smoke is illegal; only difference. One fact still remains; MANY, MANY more people die at the hands of a drunk driver than a buzzed driver. Sorry Buzz, can't resist; Buzzzzzzzz.

Does this really sound like medical marijuana? It sounds like legalized pot. The same lobby that is pushing this on the other witn story has been pushing hard in Ca, why? If they can do it there, they can do it here. The old saying of going to pot, will have new meaning.
