7-Year-Old NC Girl Shot, Wounded At Skating Rink

Authorities in North Carolina's largest city are looking for a suspect after a 7-year-old girl was shot in the leg by a stray bullet at a roller skating rink.

The Charlotte Observer reported Sunday that Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said the girl's injuries weren't life threatening.

A suspect has been identified, but police are not revealing his name.

Capt. Michelle Hummel said officers were called to the Starlight Roller Rink Saturday afternoon. Hummel said two men got into an argument just after 5 p.m. One man pulled out a gun, which went off.

The girl was shot once in the right leg just above the knee by the bullet. She was in stable condition at Carolinas Medical Center. Hummel said the 7-year-old didn't know either of the men.

Great Idea S ... but the problem is that there are far too many places that CCW is not allowed. So what ends up happenning is that only the criminals are armed in most cases and they know this so they do what they want without fear. More people need to get CCW permits. When Criminals start getting hurt on the "job" they will act like normal citizens.

The 2 men shouldnt of had the gun in a skating rink in the first place. We are sooooo thankful for the community helpers we have now.

This is so infuriating! Why were there guns at the skating rink in the first place!?! It's a skating rink if you are over the age of 15 and not a parent you look like a sicko for being there anyway. What is even sadder about this situation is the only resource that law abiding citizens have is to arm themselves, and what message does that send. Guns don't belong in these places period. Gun safety is already a big enough issue. Prayer is what we all need, right now.

Yes,there is an answer to the crime rate today & that is simple....Learn to shoot the criminals instead of them shooting you....until they get the idea that somebody is going to shoot back, they will keep on preying on victims...and if they are convicted in Court of using a gun, send them to prison for life, not just a few days....Our laws are so outdated & protect the criminals, not the victims anymore.

Well, we could keep on "slapping their hands" for such crimes. That's working out just fine, now isn't it? NOT! Punishment is a joke in this country now.

Yes, there are roller rinks, public libraries, skate parks, youth centers, recreation centers, movie houses, ToysRUs megastores, and public swimming pools too. 'Course, the kids could just stay home all the time and learn the rules of the new world off the T.V. Perhaps, metal detectors are needed at the entrance to all these public places? But, who would pay for it? It's just a crazy world out there today, and who really has the best answer to all this crime.

Lizzie, you are right, our children are the only real assets we have to pass on to the next generation. There should be a real law that convicts people that shoot in public or homes that wound children, they should have a higher jail time than is now standard.

Just lets you know our innocent children are not safe anywhere now a days because of the stupid people that think shooting n public is the answer. Stupid people should be locked up for good and let our children be children and have fun and enjoy their lives.
