Forecasters say freezing rain could create an icy mess in parts of the North Carolina mountains.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the areas around Asheville, Hendersonville and Lake Lure through Sunday morning.
Forecasters say freezing rain and sleet should fall in the area for several hours before temperatures slowly rise back above freezing Sunday. Up to a quarter-inch of ice is possible.
Meteorologists expect lesser amounts of sleet and freezing rain in the rest of the North Carolina mountains before temperatures warm.
Forecasters say the cold rain could have a few sleet pellets mixed in as far south as Charlotte, but no problems are expected.
