NC Board Expects Former Easley Aide To Appear

A former aide to Gov. Mike Easley who delayed his testimony before the State Board of Elections is now expected to be called by the panel.

State elections board director Gary Bartlett said Wednesday that Ruffin Poole is scheduled to appear Dec. 17.

The board wanted Poole to testify in October during a hearing into the campaign finances of Easley and the state Democratic Party, but Poole filed a motion seeking to quash his subpoena. A trial court judge agreed with Poole, but the state Court of Appeals issued a stay of that order.

Hearing evidence showed Poole helped with Easley's campaign fundraising.

The board ordered Oct. 30 that Easley's campaign committee pay $100,000 and referred evidence to prosecutors to investigate further.
