Oh, Deer! Woman OK After Encounter With Deer In Tarboro

A North Carolina business owner is recovering from injuries she suffered when she encountered a herd of deer on a downtown Tarboro sidewalk.

The Daily Southerner of Tarboro reported that Michelle Brewer was opening the jewelry store she co-owns with her husband when one deer passed by. Then she says so many deer appeared that she couldn't move.

Brewer doesn't remember the deer stepping on her Saturday. But she does recall being eye-level with them before she hit the sidewalk, saying she thinks the deer were as afraid of her as she was of them. Others told her that one deer kicked her several feet in the air before the rest trampled her.

Her injuries included two bruises on the right side of her face and a hoof print on her leg, although she didn't need to go to the hospital.

Anon, if you don't like sarcasm this site probably isn't the place to hang out.. just an observation. Joe, it can only be a hate crime if these deer were teal colored.

To Dismay: No, I am not kidding. Bow hunting would be far safer than hunting with firearms...especially if done from tree stands. Besides,I was'nt suggesting hunting on Main Street among the stores and businesses. I was actually thinking of those areas in the city limits that are wooded, open fields, etc. Judging from your healthcare comment,I'd say you and I can at least agree on one issue...but I have not fallen from a tree stand, and saw no need for you to disagree with me in such a sarcastic manner.

Well, I think i have heard everything....those poor deer was only running from Bigfoot. Since Bigfoot is so secretive about his life-style, the deer knew if they went into town, he wouldn't follow them there. Watch out all you deer hunters....he lives out around Fountain and his gun is loaded!

Bow hunting in Tarboro city limits? Now I know someone fell off their tree stand for sure? GOT TO BE KIDDING! With the way some hunters go fanatic about killing deer when the season comes in, this would be the last thing needed. There would be more human injuries. All the merchants and their clients would have to wear their ORANGE! And as far as the argument that there are too many deer, I disagree. Nature has always provided a solution for over-population. We are the ones over populating and developing land after land for shopping malls and subdivisions. We are invading their space and so naturally they have fewer places to feed. Hey but with the new Obamacare, the human over-population will improve. And that comment is not to be sarcastic but a true belief of this healthcare provider.

I live in Tarboro. We have a HUGE over-population of deer within the city limits. It is not uncommon to see several deer together anywhere in town, near, and often on,the streets...and at almost any time of the day or night. In many parts of Tarboro you can often see HERDS of deer! Any policeman from here will tell you that they respond to way too many car/deer collisions, especially this time of year. Also, this incident with Mrs. Brewer is not an isolated one..A few years back a deer broke through a church window downtown, then ran out and got hit by a car on Main Street,in front of Maxway. The police had to destroy the badly wounded deer at the scene. This happened in the middle of the day. I personally think that the town should take the necessary steps to allow hunting within the city limits. The safest way to do this would be to allow only bow hunting,as opposed to firearms. Just a suggestion, but something's gotta give!
