Food Bank In Desperate Need Of Donations

Thanksgiving is about a week away and one food bank says it is drastically low on turkeys and hams.

The Food Bank of Central and Eastern Carolina says it only has seven turkeys and hams to go around. That's particularly bad because more and more people are seeking public assistance to get by these days.

The food bank says keeping the shelves stocked is a challenge. They say organizations such as theirs have seen a 60 percent increase in requests.

The Salvation Army says 83 percent of the people who signed up for help with them are first timers.

The Food Bank is located at 497 West Ninth Street, Greenville. Their phone number if 252-752-4996.

Is any one giving steaks away?? Would much rather have a nice juicy rare steak than dried out turkey or sugary glazed ham. And really... What is the big deal with caring about what you eat on one day? The name of the day is "thanksgiving" day not "thanksgiving because I have a turkey or ham" day. Family fellowship takes a backseat to the menu ... I guess. I'm having a steak and wild turkey special reserve (the only turkey I consume), and I'm happy.

Anonymous at 9:39 - the address and phone number are at the bottom of the article. Call them and I am sure they will let you know how you can help. I was there tonight with my daughters girl scout troup and we brought in canned goods and help with sorting. I am sure they can use hands as well as merchandise!!

Now is the time to pull together and help our neighbors and those in need. If we would give what we could to churchs or the Salvation Army the govenment wouldn't have the opertunity to takeover that part of our lives! We don't need government help, we need eachother. I am going to do my part to help.
