Governor Perdue Begins Trade Mission To Asia

Gov. Beverly Perdue's first overseas trade mission will focus on building ties with North Carolina's second- and fourth-largest trading partners -- China and Japan.

The 12-day trip begins Thursday. Perdue will arrive Friday in Tokyo in advance of a meeting that promotes commerce among eight Southeastern states and Japan. She'll travel next week to Beijing and later Shanghai, visiting businesses and meeting trade and government officials. There will be school visits in between.

The state will pay about $77,000 for Perdue, Commerce Secretary Keith Crisco, four of their staff members and security. Corporations and economic development booster groups will pay $95,000 for business-related events.

Perdue's husband, Bob Eaves, also will travel but won't go on the state's dime.

International businesses make good decisions based on business economics, not "good will visits." Nice vactions at the expense of State Employees that have had their hours cut or their opportunities for development limited with lame funding excuses.

Why doesnt this woman take an pay heed to what the bloggers on here an other blogging sites have had to say about her wasteing the taxpayers funds to go ahead an take this trip anyway afte there has been such negitive coments about her going to china in the first place This in my oopinion just goes to show how much real input into our states government the taxpayers have an say in to begin with. I just apperas that she has snub her nose at the taxpayers an as good as said screw you ( taxpayers i am going anyway for my own personal pleasure) so yopu taxpayers had may as well shut the he-- up an just keep your mouths shut as to anything that i as governor have plans to do because it will be done with or without your approval thank you

Let her stay over there. Maybe she can destroy their country like she's doing to our state!
