Worker's Death Under Investigation

A North Carolina man has died after a boat fell on him as it was being loaded onto a trailer.

The Star-News of Wilmington reported that 25-year-old Ryan Lee Church of Wilmington died late Wednesday afternoon.

Officials said Church was trying to align the boat with a trailer when the boat fell, trapping him. Church was pronounced dead when emergency medical workers arrived.

New Hanover County Sheriff's Deputy Charles Smith says the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been notified of the death.

In high school, Ryan was such a sweet guy and on into college too. I'm so sad this happened. I'm praying for his family.

I lost my sister in 2006 at age 30 who was also a Pirate class of 1999...I am so sorry~may God carry you all through this difficult time. The road is long and hard and a promise that it will be better right now seems never goes away but you just learn how to cope. Bless you all.

Ryan Church was a person of great character and a friend to so many. Like Dan said, he was a graduate of ECU,but also a member of Kappa Alpha Order, and a proud Pirate. Please pray for his family and friends in this hard time.

Church was an ECU graduate and all-around great person. After a recent football game in Greenville, Ryan and I were discussing the dangerous task which ultimately has led to his untimely death. Working with him out of high school and seeing him around campus was always a pleasure, and he will be truly missed by many. Please pray for his mother and brother as they get through this difficult time.
