Many people can give 20, 25, maybe 30 years at the same job. But how about 60!
Peggy Carson has worked at the State Highway Patrol Office in Greenville since 1949. She was only 18 when she started as administrative secretary for the headquarters.
Tuesday morning hundreds of people gathered at the Memorial Baptist Church to honor Carson's commitment and service to North Carolina.
Ms. Peggy, as many call her, even received the Tar Heel Award for her service to the state. She had already won the Long Leaf Pine Award when she hit the 30 year mark. Now with 30 more years of service, she's retiring.
Rueben Young, Secretary of Crime Control and Public Safety says, "She really embodies what the Highway Patrol is all about...it's about dedication and service to the taxpayer of North Carolina. I can't think of anybody who has done more and committed more to this state as she has."
Carson says she couldn't speak about her career on camera because she was just overwhelmed by all the attention. She did say she plans to relax -- now that she's retired.
