Five Year Old Mauled By Several Dogs

A 5-year-old North Carolina boy suffered severe injuries after he was mauled by several dogs.

Multiple media outlets report that the child was attacked by five Rottweilers as they were being fed Friday afternoon near Pilot Mountain.

The child's relatives told Emergency Medical Services Director John Shelton that he jumped into the pen.

The boy was taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center with injuries to the head, neck and stomach. Officials said his injuries were critical.

The animals were taken to a shelter. Officials said there were several dozen dogs chained at the property where the attack occurred.

I am a rottweiler owner... and unlike the "pit bull freaks", I do not try to fool myself or other people. I know my dog is strong, big, and has the potential to harm, maul, or and kill! That was the main reason for purchasing her 13 years ago. So when my children were outside ... no one could come near them. I only had one dog because dogs are pack animals, and more aggressive if the numbers increase. My dog has done her job. I have seen people jump through the windows of their cars, on top of their hoods. They have blown their horn, but she has never bit anyone because I've taken all the precautions necessary. I got a rottweiler because of the size, and the fear factor. If I wanted a cute, fluffy dog I would have gotten a poodle. People who get rottweiler and pitts know the stigma associated with those dogs. They know what they are getting into... and they still get them. Anyone who owns these dogs still has them around children unsupervised is an idiot!

How is this any different than the girl who fell asleep and her baby's toes ended up getting chewed off? This is absurd! A 5 year old should not be around a pack of dogs when they are getting fed. I don't care what breed they are!!!

Do you all really think the parents thought this would happen? They surely didn't expect it or want it. I am sure they are blaming themselves just like the rest of you are blaming them, however, they have that right you all do not! The parents made a lapse in judgement, I am sure they are paying for it with their guilt. How many of you have kids, and how many times have your kids gotten hurt by something that probaly could have been avoided if you had made a different decision. The parents could have been standing right there. My daughter fell out of a chair and landed on my feet, she dislocated her elbow from it, with me RIGHT THERE!!! Kids are fast and see NO danger, parents think faster than they can act. I seen that they were in a pin and the child went in it. Dogs, ANY BREED, are animals, just like people, UNPREDICTABLE!!! Serial killers are ones that people will say "I never thought he/she would do that". Look at Ted Bundy! May GOD Bless the child and family and all of you!!!

Okay, people, no matter the breed, no matter the size, any dog can kill you. Pomeranians have killed, as have beagles and labs. Proper training, proper socialization, and not discarding them onto a chain in the back yard because you don't have the time to be a responsible owner, as well as having the common sense to teach your children when it's unsafe to approach ANY DOG, whether you have a dog or not, would prevent alot of attacks. Dogs don't randomly turn, they are provoked. It has been proven by numerous long term studies. Most any breed can be traced to having killed or hospitialized humans. Including toy breeds! To belive otherwise is pure ignorance. If you don't belive me look it up. A Yorkie, a Pom, and a Chihuahua that have been put down due to attacking and killing/mauling humans are easy to find on the web.

I look at this way if you got a bunch of dogs and you feel you need to chain them up away from the other dogs then you know they could do harm. no one needs that many dogs. yeah those breads are bred for those reasons. and yes they can flip. so parents have to be careful makes you think what was more important the DOGS or the child. bless the child. most dogs are protective the thing is find out what they r protective of. you can train your dog better than that.

I don't blame the dogs, I blame the parents. They knew better than to take a CHILD to te pens at feeding time. Who ever trained the dogs did a bad job, I can take food out of my dogs mouth and the won't do anything except go back to the bowl, one is American Bull dog, the other is half Rotty and half German Shepard. The breed is not the problem, the owner is.

CAN YOU BELIEVE HIS IDIOT FAMILY IS BLAMING THE 5 YEAR OLD BOY?! STUPID !@#$%! Who was watching the child? MORE STUPID PARENTS WITH PIT BULLS AND ROTTIS. Will this EVER end?! I vote for a BAN on anyone with children that want Pitbulls and Rottwielers. They should be made to provide a 10 foot privacy fences for this breed and make all owners carry some kind of insurance on these dogs in case they attack somenone besides the owner. I don't give a RIP about you dogs lovers of this kind and the stupid comments about it being how the dog is raised. Proven millions of times over that these dogs are subject to change on a dime. They are guard and fighting dogs. It was bred into them a hundred years ago. I don't blame the dogs. I blame the stupid, irresponsible owners and parents.
