NC Museum Celebrates Talk Like A Pirate Day

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Ahoy, mateys! The N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh is celebrating Talk Like a Pirate Day with free admission to anyone who dresses like a pirate.

The lads and wenches who dress like their favorite swashbuckling buccaneer will get free admission Saturday to "Knights of the Black Flag," the museum's exhibit about the legacy of pirates.

Although admission is typically free for ages 18 and under, the fee is $5 for ages 19 up and $4 for some groups, including senior citizens.

Visitors can also make their own Jolly Roger from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. if they participate in a flag-making program.

Avast, me mateys. Per chance a hearty flagon of grog will soften yer stone hearts and bring out the true buccaneer in all yer mangy hides. Tis true that the museum is usually entered without parting with ones treasure, but you will have to spare a doubloon for the special exhibits. Now heave to with yer traiterous comments or be ready to walk the plank. Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

We've been to the NC Museum of History and NC Museum of Natural Science many times and have never paid admission to either place. Is this a new thing?

This is one of the most idiotic things I have seen. You're not celebrating a culture, you're celebrating a stereotype.
