North Carolina Art Groups Get Almost $8 Million In Grants

Arts programs and projects in North Carolina will get almost $8 million in grants from the state and federal governments.

State Cultural Resources Secretary Linda Carlisle announced the grants at a news conference Wednesday in Fayetteville. The money will go to 342 organizations, 16 artist fellowships, three documentaries and three internships.

The grants are funded by the state Legislature, along with money from the National Endowment for the Arts and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, or federal stimulus money.

State officials said they received 79 requests for Creative Workforce grants that support the preservation of critical jobs and artists' contracts, but only 18 were funded.

The grants could also be used to help culture in the schools and to pay for the artists used. Visual and musical. It brings culture into schools which todays youth needs very bad. It also helps stimulate people trying to get into business and helping buy equipment that they would not be able to afford to get business going.

I enjoy the arts... music, paintings, concerts... they are all great and important. The problem here is the arts in NC gets 8 Million dollars! What about the other states? What do they get? The real question isn't "what do they get", who cares?.. The real question is WHERE IS THE MONEY COMING FROM? Do you think it's free money because it's called a "grant" or because it comes from the government? The government, state and federal, DOES NOT HAVE MONEY... the money they spend (or give away) is tax dollars. How much has Perdue taken from state employees salaries? Where's the money for schools that was used to patch the state budget?? I AM TIRED OF THE GIVE AWAYS. Sometimes you just have to say NO.
