North Carolina Art Groups Get Almost $8 Million In Grants

Arts programs and projects in North Carolina will get almost $8 million in grants from the state and federal governments.

State Cultural Resources Secretary Linda Carlisle announced the grants at a news conference Wednesday in Fayetteville. The money will go to 342 organizations, 16 artist fellowships, three documentaries and three internships.

The grants are funded by the state Legislature, along with money from the National Endowment for the Arts and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, or federal stimulus money.

State officials said they received 79 requests for Creative Workforce grants that support the preservation of critical jobs and artists' contracts, but only 18 were funded.
