OLF Study Delay

The Navy says it's delaying the release of it's environmental impact study for potential outlying landing field sites, including two in Eastern Carolina.

The Navy has been studying sites in both Camden and Gates counties for an OLF, where jets can practice take-offs and landings. Three sites in Virginia are being considered as well. The Navy says they must delay the environmental impact statement until they know whether Naval Air Station Oceana will become the homebase of the F-35C Navy Joint Strike Fighter.

The gov't only delays something when the outcome is not likely in their favor at the moment. The navy was caught lying about the bird numbers for the EIS on the proposed site in Washington County and that is largely why they lost the ability to build there. Believe me, if the EIS results were 100% positive, they'd be ramming the OLF down our throats already. The navy is only stalling to downplay any negative impacts and give themselves time to muster political support before going public. They don't want to lose another potential site

I don't care how long it takes as long as they get it right. If VA wants to keep the jets and the economic benefits that go with them, let them find an OLF for them IN VA. NC will take the jets and provide an OLF if VA can't find a suitable area.

Imagine that....another delay from the Navy. Maybe if their home was on the line to be destroyed, they would know how on edge these residents are about knowing if they are going to have to pick up and leave the only thing they have ever known. Why would they want to take a peaceful community like Gates County, a county that only has ONE STOPLIGHT and disturb the way of life there? I know why....because it's the government.....they will do anything they please.....please keep it in VA, where you already have a landing field!
