NEW INFO: Search Suspended For 12-Year-Old Missing In Ocean

Coast Guard officials have suspended the search for a missing 12-year old who was swept out to sea Friday.

Previous Story:

Rescuers are searching for a missing 12-year-old boy on the Outer Banks on Friday in advance of Tropical Storm Danny.

It happened in front of the Ocean Sands development in Corolla, that's in Currituck County.

The boy's mother said her son was on a boogie board and she lost sight of him after he went under the water. The boogie board washed ashore without her son.

The Coast Guard, Corolla firefighters and the Currituck County Sheriff's Office are searching for the boy.

Coast Guard spokesman Lt. j.g. Scott Hembrook says the waves in the area weren't that high, only about 4 to 6 feet tall. But the storm is creating a very strong undertow that can pull swimmers to the bottom.

Fort Macon Coast Guard spokesperson Scott Hembrook says a search and rescue effort is underway in Currituck County for a 12-year-old boy who was playing on his boogie board Friday morning.

The boy was at the beach in Corolla with his mom, when she saw the boogie board wash up on the beach and couldn't find her son.

The search and rescue effort started at 10:45 a.m., and the Coast Guard is now searching with a 47-foot boat and a helicopter.

Caitlin, you're a year late and I know the family of the boy, so I know more than you do. There were no red flags at the time that he and his family were in the water. Grow up and get your facts straight before you post things for the internet to read.

I don't know who will see this, but there WERE NO red flags, no warnings,Chance was with his father and uncle, they all got pulled under, and Chance never emerged. Those of you blaming this on the parents should be ashamed, they could not have prevented this. Again, there were NO red flags and NO warnings.

Chance shouldn't have to be a shining star. Parental guidence could have prevented this. Some of you can get mad if you want to. It's the truth and sometimes it hurts.
