Senator Shoots Home Intruder

A sheriff says North Carolina's longest serving lawmaker has shot an intruder at his Tabor City home. Columbus County Sheriff Chris Batten tells The Star-News of Wilmington that 74-year-old state Sen. R.C. Soles shot one of two people who kicked in the front door Sunday.

Batten says the intruder was taken to a hospital, though he did not know the extent of his injuries.

The sheriff's office referred a call from The Associated Press to the State Bureau of Investigation. The SBI is investigating a claim by a man that the senator tried to fondle him more than a decade ago. The accuser later said he made up the claim. Soles has not been charged and denies the accusation.

A call to an SBI spokeswoman was not immediately returned. Two calls to a number listed for Soles' Tabor City home went unanswered.

Some sound like the the Senator did something wrong here. Aren't we all suppose to protect our family and home??? One of the better ends to this story may well be that he will change his opinion of anti-gun laws.

I think there is probably a lot more to this story than you will find here. I would recommend to do a simple google search on the Senator to find out more of the drama surrounding him.

He is still alive he will do time then get out and could come back.If I have enough reason to pull a gun then I have reason enough to use it,if I have reason enough use it, then I have reason enough to kill.there is no excuse for a home invasion.

Was it a gun or just another Democrat shooting his mouth off! I have to comment his actions to defend his home and family but one has to wonder why he wants the rest of us to be defenseless? Kind of the same with health care don't you think?

What a HIPPOCRIT! This man has consistently been Anti gun since he became a Senator.I reckon he feels that the law should not apply to him.He doesn't want us to own our guns, but yet he wants to be able to protect his house.Typical Dumbocrat!

I think if you guys would do a little background work on what has been going on with this Senator lately, you would probably question this a little further. This fella has been hip-deep in some investigations and innuendo lately, including giving a 17 year old kid a house and new corvette. Wouldn't shock me to see this story 'blow up' and I doubt people familiar with the situation will take what he says at face value. Law enforcement has been called to his house a number of times lately for several reasons...will be interesting to see how this shakes out.
