NC Judge Rules Suspect In Deadly Street Racing Crash Can Go To Church

A North Carolina judge has ruled that a South Carolina woman under house arrest awaiting trial for a deadly street racing crash in April can attend church.

The Charlotte Observer reported that a judge ruled Thursday that Carlene Atkinson, age 44, cannot drive but can attend church and go to medical appointments.

The former Sunday School teacher and vacation Bible school director from Lake Wylie, S.C., is accused of racing 20-year-old Tyler Stasko at speeds up to 100 mph on a North Carolina highway.

The race resulted in three deaths when Stasko's car crashed into another car killing the driver, a 45-year-old college professor, her 2-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old passenger in Stasko's car.

Atkinson's car wasn't involved in the crash, but she and Stasko are both charged with murder.
