Congressman Proposes Employee Verification Bill

U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler is introducing a bill that will require employers to verify the work authorization status of employees through a nationwide database.

The Democratic representing western North Carolina will join other congressional leaders in Washington on Thursday to introduce the measure. His office said it would increase border security and interior security while requiring employers to check workers against a Department of Homeland Security database known as E-Verify.

Shuler's office said the measure will reduce illegal immigration. He first filed a version of the bill in 2007.

"NC Native" You said you were not going to get involved, then you spew a bunch of false propaganda. Almost everything you said is untrue. Mexico is a dump, but why? Because the people who live there make it a dump. The Jews moved to a desolate desert and made it a paradise. The Mexicans live in Mexico and wallow in ignorant squalor because it is how they live. If they don't like it, they should clean it up, not come here and change the US into a dump just like Mexico. If you love living among them and enjoy their culture so much, go live with them.

NC Native---I defy you to show me ONE article of the Constitution that allows the government to give ONE penny of some other American's hard earned money to someone else. That is pure BS. And do not quote me that bit from the "PREAMBLE" about promoting the general welfare. The preamble DOES NOT establish the rules, it explains the articles following it. There is NO article of the Constitution that allows for the social engineering going on in this country. Thank me very much!!!

What is wrong with requiring them to obtain the proper paperwork when entering this country?

I am with OBXFAN..I will not get into this discussion because its like beating a rug with a stick. TO: Jim...I know from first hand experience that immigrants do not send as much money back to mexico because they are having to pay for rent, lights, food, etc. and therefore what little they do have left over maybe sent back or they may keep it with them for other things. They can not live like kings in mexico anymore, have you ever been there and seen where they live? I have and believe me, you would run back to your home and thank GOD you do not have to live in such awful conditions. Yes, some parts are nicer than others, but the majority is poverty or lower...TO Renee, if they are here illegal then they get no welfare, but if they have a child that is a US citizen, then they may get Medicaid and/or wic. Why should we blame them for what our constitution states!!! In closing I say everyone better be prepared to pay double at the grocery stores for your fresh veggies.

I'm glad to see a Democrat pushing this bill but I'm sure his far-left peers will not go along with it for fear of losing votes from hispanics. Conservatives wanted some sort of verification listed in the stimulus so only citizens could get paid by stimulus money but it was struck down by liberals who were thinking about votes.

OK it cost a whole lot more to employ a mexican. You have to pay them by the hour, supply them somewhere to live, and some kind of transportation. The reason we had to start hiring them is because you can't find anyone else that will work that hard. I am not saying the illegals should be here, but don't blame them for taking your job...

To OBXFAN yes some are lazy, alot are not, the biggest reason the locals dont have a job is cause these immigrants will do the work for a little of nothing. They getting everything handed to them on a silver platter so they send most of the little bit of money they make back to mexico so they can live like kings and watch us suffer!!!

Why is there a pic of a farm scene? Is witn implying that farms are the only ones who hire illegals? What about construction companies, lawn care, restaurants etc?

I support what he is doing 100%. Its about time someone stepped up. This is why NC has no money in the schools and the reason healthcare is so expensive. Bev should have taken this under her wing but, then she is a yellow dog democrat.
