Officials at the North Carolina Zoo say attendance is up slightly.
About 730,000 visitors checked out the lions. monkeys, zebras and other animals between July 2008 and this June -- about 100 more
visitors than the year before.
Zoo officials say the rising popularity of day trips has attracted lots of budget-conscious visitors. The zoo also added a giraffe feeding station and a honey bee exhibit.
This was the sixth busiest year for the zoo, which opened in 1979.
