Madoff Had Prison Coach Before Coming To NC

A prison coach who helped Bernard Madoff get ready for his 150-year sentence says the disgraced financier was not afraid before starting his term at a federal penitentiary in North Carolina.

Herb Hoelter told the CBS "Early Show" that Madoff was remorseful but composed when Hoelter met him four days before sentencing.

Hoelter said Madoff would not be in danger at the Butner prison, where he was transferred this week from a federal jail in New York.

Hoelter called Butner a "good facility" that is well-run. Hoelter said Madoff will get 300 minutes a month in phone time to make calls.

The 71-year-old Madoff pleaded guilty in March to charges that his investment advisory business was a multibillion-dollar scheme that wiped out thousands of investors and ruined charities.

Why does everyone on here think Madoff was so evil.Yet nary a comment about John Hinkley,Jr.Most of the people that were ripped off by Madoff were rich greedy New Yorkers that were trying to make more easy money. How many people have they done wrong to make their money.

300 minutes a month to call home? What in the heck is that? John Hinkley, Jr. tried to kill the greatest President in our lifetime, and did succeed in severely wounding him, along with James Brady, and Hinkley gets weekend passes to go see his Mommy and Daddy. And Sarah Brady didn't have a problem with it.Bernard Madoff's crimes were NONVIOLENT, and all he gets is 300 minutes on the phone a month. That's 10 minutes a day. What kind of justice is this? I reckon in some misguided people's eyes, its more of a crime to steal money from RICH New Yorkers than it is to shoot the President.

don't want him to be afraid as he said he wasn't afraid, just want him to be miserable the rest of his days.

Wow, his victims didn't have a "what do I do when I'm broke" coach. Give me a break.
