Now that there's a female governor, North Carolina legislators are interested in looking at whether state law and the constitution should be cleaned up with gender-neutral language.
The House gave final legislative approval Monday night to a
Senate bill directing a state panel to examine the law books and
make recommendations. The Legislature would have to approve any
actual changes, while any tinkering to the constitution would have
to be approved by voters.
Rep. Deborah Ross of Wake County said that while Gov. Beverly
Perdue is female, the governor is referred throughout the
constitution as a "he." She said bill drafters already try to use
