Police along with the highway patrol will be watching, and stopping you, this holiday weekend.

It's all part of Operation Firecracker and the Booze It and Lose It Campaign.

The Fourth of July holiday weekend means having fun and partying, but it can also bring accidents and drunk driving.

Jacksonville officials say more officers and troopers will be patrolling this weekend, with additional officers in problem areas, and DWI checkpoints.

Both agencies will be targeting high traveled areas and highways across Onslow County.

I guess that applies to State Troopers as well when they damage someone else's vehicle. Something tells me that if an on duty trooper caught a off duty trooper for driving drunk, he'd drive him home and they would laugh about it at the Patrol Christmas party. There is something about involving witnesses that causes the gig to be up.

what does it tell you when the perp is back on the streets before the A.O. finishes the reports?? it's always been that way. PLUS,,during recessions,,, cop funding gets cut first. there's a painting called "restrictions" that is very impressive.

Officer1 you are exactly right. I too work in law enforcement and the justice system is a joke. Just wait for the comments to surface about how many people have been "inconvienced" by the road blocks that they feel are "not right".

I have been an officer for 23 years. The title says "You Drink and Drive.. You Lose". Unfortunately, that rarely is proven to be true. Usually, the result of You Drink and Drive ... is someone else loses. The only thing that "You" usually lose is the money you pay the court and attorney. Then "you" fo and get your license back to do it again. And all of this is IF you are found guilty in court after your case is pending for nearly a year or more. The court/justice system is a joke that generally makes the victims suffer more than the offenders. Read or watch the news and see the DWIs, and the Repeat DWIs that never should've been driving again. Also, listen to the family members of victims that have been killed by drunk drivers. All of this to say ... the title of this article is sooooo misleading and the "leaders" should change the DWI laws to make this article true. This is coming from an officer that has arrested numerous drunk drivers and spent many hours in court with them!
