SBI Investigating Former Governor & Wife

The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the actitivies of former Gov. Mike Easley when he was in office.

The Attorney General's office confirmed that in a letter Monday to Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger. That letter said the SBI is working with the FBI in its investigation into the former governor and his wife's position at NC State.

In the letter sent to Berger, Cooper's chief of staff says the SBI has been investigating Easley since "earlier this year."

In a news release, the Republican leader said while it was reassuring to know that the SBI was on the case, he still wants a special prosecutor appointed to conduct an investigation at the state level into allegations of corruption involving the Easleys.

Meanwhile, attorneys for NC State says they have found that e-mails during the hiring process of former the first lady were deleted from the account of former Chancellor James Oblinger.

The university's lawyers said in a letter to the U.S. attorney's office released Wednesday that they have been able to determine how and why the e-mails sent from and received by Oblinger's e-mail account were deleted. They said there are periods of time in the first half of 2005 for which officials have been unable to recover e-mails.

Easley was hired in May of 2005.

Oblinger attorney Press Millen says the chancellor may have deleted e-mails to clean up his account but never engaged in any wholesale deletion of e-mails targeting those related to Easley.

The former Governor and Beverly Purdue are protégés of Jim Hunt. Unfortunately due to district gerrymandering by the NC Legislature political corruption will flourish and grow in NC because due to the large population centers of Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte which are predominately Democrat strongholds will always vote Democrat. So therefore NC will be stuck in a cycle of political corruption that will rival Lousiana and Chicago. Beverly Purdue has already proven she doesn't have the right stuff to break this corrupt political cycle by raising taxes in a recession and not making budget cuts that are worth putting on paper.

If the Easleys do not get in any trouble with that, politics would be the only reason why, and I will be one angry North Carolinian that would raise cain and would love to start protesting this with several others. They sure have taken away lors from NC and has had a part to do with this economy being really terrble. They have gotten way too many freebees from our dollars that we earn, but yet it's like they get the credit. If it were to lead to potentially hard jailtime, it would not surprise me if one of them tried to kill theirself cause they probably would not be able to deal with it and if they do then I would feel no sympathy at all, except toward family members.

It is sad that we can't trust the individuals we elect. But it is who scratches who's back. Evidently we are definitely out of the loop. It doesn't matter your political affliation. It's just knowing the right person.
