They Want To Tax What?

Services you use everyday could cost more if some state lawmakers get their way.

A proposed house bill would charge a service tax for things like warranties, installations and repairs, local and interstate courier services like Fed-Ex, downloading ringtones and songs, haircuts, movie tickets, and the state sales tax would increase by a quarter percent.

Local business owners and organizations don't like the idea saying people will just opt not to buy certain goods or services.

No final decisions have been made. Lawmakers are expected to vote on a final bill by the end of the month.

Why can we not just cut spending. Why will not any politician answer that question. Simple and straight forward and the governor. Just cut spending

Tax, tax, tax...we are going to end up being taxed to death...some people are already having trouble buying what they need and paying their bills...this is just going to make it worse.

To "Hey Sam", I know there are people who cant work at all and need some type of help in order to live, and that's unfortunate. As far as being monitored a lot closer and audited and more service oriented, I can agree with that. Anyways something needs to change with this anyhow. To Obama Snake Oil, I completely agree with you about the illegal immigrant situation and NC should do like SC did. South Carolina runs a much better government than North Carolina does. I would go one step further and prioritize doubling the size of the border patrol and tell the border patrol people that anybody who tries to cross into the United States without having legal access should be shot dead as they are caught. This will get many of them to think about it before they try this. Had they did this 30 years ago, we would not have a problem at all with illegals, therefore making a better economy. To Toby, if there was such a bumper sticker, I would burn the thing in public.

Laura, if you haven't noticed the trend, Gator is right. The democrat party is now the elitest party of wealthy liberals. They have done damage to this state every year yet get voted in again and again. Gator, I don't go along with any new taxes, infact, I want to know why this state needs more money than other states tax. Tenn has no income but has a 6 cent sales tax. We now have 7 cents plus income, plug the highest gas tax, plus all of these other garbage taxes being passed. Can anyone tell me "why"? Then Obama sneaks in taxes that you don't even know about. He recended the Bush tax cuts. Well, folks, remember that tax return you got this year? Gone. Gas tax coming...plus more, yet you vote in these idiots. I am democrat, I didn't vote democrat president during a predominantly democrat houses. That is spending spree central now.

I know it isn't much of a comfort to my fellow working people out there but be happy about this fact...at least these particular tax increases on us will effect worthless people who don't work the same as us. They don't pay taxes on the salaries that they DON'T make but they will have to pay this sales tax increase at stores and these service taxes. I hate it and don't want it but at least it will effect the parasites of society too because they always seem to scrape up enough money to go to movies, get vehicle repairs completed, download ringtones for their phones, and get haircuts. I take comfort in knowing they'll have to pay these taxes in order to get around day to day and do their part just like us working people.

Posted by: laura Location: washington,n.c.27889 "the rich get richer and the middleclass get poorer" Isn't that what the democrats used to get elected. Now the democrats hold the state, federal congress and senate, and the presidency. Who is all the money going to: Banks, Auto, Insurance, mice, oversees abortions, etc... It's hard to use the party line when your party is doing the damage. And yes, we are still in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The headline should replace "what" with "everything". Politicians want to tax everything. This is change you can believe in. Had enough of Obama/Perdue yet? I've never counted 4 years in increments of minutes until now. The Democrats are legislating themselves right out of office 2010 and 2012. It is time for fiscal responsibility. Start at the White House and NC Gov. Mansion. Wake up America!

Kat, the lottery pays for the schools to be built, the rest comes from taxes. If we would only deport illegals from our state, like SC did, the problem would go away. Schools never planned on how many illegals show up in NC. This is why the don't have any money. This is also, as I stated in another blog, why healthcare "prices" are out of control. Illegals have babies and skip out on the bill. Secondly, take away the ability to sue doctors. This is the number one expense to a doctor is liability insurance. This is why anyone that cuts on you has to charge so much. Problem solved.
