NC-Based Paratroopers Seize Afghan Weapons Cache

North Carolina paratroopers have destroyed nearly 200 pieces of ammunition that a commander says could have been used to make roadside bombs in Afghanistan.

The 82nd Airborne Division said Monday that 180 anti-aircraft rounds, nine mortar shells and two artillery rounds that had been buried were destroyed by ordnance experts.

The ammunition was found last week in the Bagram district. Lt. Col. Christopher Eubank is a commander of the 82nd's Special Troops Battalion that handled the ammunition and says it was destroyed so it can't be used by insurgents.

Paratroopers from Fort Bragg are on a 12-month deployment to
Afghanistan.
