Mary Easley's Job Is Eliminated

The wife of former Gov. Mike Easley has lost her $170,000-a-year position at North Carolina State University.

UNC system president Erskine Bowles announced Mary Easley's termination Monday, hours after the school's chancellor resigned because of the controversy.

Meanwhile, e-mails released by N.C. State indicate the former governor was involved in the school's hiring of his wife, who had refused to step down despite calls from top university officials.

Mary Easley ran a speakers series and an academic center dealing with law enforcement training. She began her tenure at the university as a teacher.

The e-mails were released as Chancellor James Oblinger became the third school official to leave a post in the flap over the job given to Mary Easley.

Why do U suppose it has taken AMERICA so lonf=g to wake up and see that GOVERNMENT as a whole is CORRUPT !! It didn't start today, folks, but a longgggg time ago. It's when it has finally hit the middle class pocket books BIG TIME do we wake up and take notice. Until government offials go back to being SERVANTS (that being VOLUNTEERS) of the people FOR the people, the high handed corruption will NEVER stop. IT's NOT about the people!!!! It's ALL about THEM and how much $$$$, benefits and lavish lifestyles the they can get. They don't even care about the bills they pass, just as long as the lobbyists are funneling money into their pockets and it doesn't affect them!!! It's not a PARTY things it's a GREED & ME, ME, ME thing!!!!!!!

Brenda, that happens everywhere, not just in government. Human behavior is the same regardless.

Does this mean she gets unemployement. She wasn't fired according to other stories. Her position was elimated due to economic conditions? Are we brain dead? The economy was bad before she got the position, wasn't it?

I will have to agree with "Brenda", Gator. Even in education on a local gov't level, people are "selected for a job before the job is announced" very often. The position is then advertised just because it "has to be" according to policy. I could cite a recent incident and back it up with a public statement by the "powers that be", but it might cause me issues with my own job...sorry.

Brenda: Do you have any proof to back up that claim? Not, that's what I heard.

In state government, unfair hiring practices go on all the time. A person is selected for a job before the job is announced in some cases. It is only because of the large amount of money that this one has been focused on. The people that do the same thing at lower levels should be dealt with also.
