A Pitt County man is behind bars, charged with raping a 14-year-old relative.
Deputies at the Pitt County Detention Center confirm 58-year-old Linwood Greene is facing two counts of statutory rape.
This isn't the man's first sex crime. Court documents indicate Greene's already been found guilty of sexually assaulting another female relative. He was released on bond pending his appeal.
Officials say the first incident happened in September 2012. Greene was charged with misdemeanor sexual battery and found guilty, but immediately asked for an appeal to superior court.
He was given a $4,000 bond and released. Since that time, Greene's case has been continued three times without a set court date. It's something that frustrates law enforcement.
"You always ask yourself the same question 'When is enough enough?' When are they going to put this guy away? Is he going to face charges that will change his lifestyle," says Pitt County Sheriff Neil Elks.
Monday morning, clerks told WITN there was no trial date for Greene. By Monday afternoon, we were told his court date is now August 18.
Greene is currently in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $500,000 bond.
