Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton's Chief Lawyer Dead At 37

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- The chief lawyer in the office of Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton has died suddenly.

Dalton spokesman Schorr Johnson said that Cynthia O'Neal died Wednesday at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Johnson said she was 37 years old.

Johnson said he didn't have any details on the cause of O'Neal's death, but said it was unexpected. He says he understands an autopsy will be performed.

Dalton said in a statement he and his staff are mourning the loss of a friend and colleague. He called O'Neal "a brilliant lawyer and an amazing person."

O'Neal previously served in private law practices and once clerked for state Supreme Court Justice Sarah Parker.

Sorry to hear about the loss! 37 years old is just too young for someone to die. It's sad to know it's a reality.

Sorry about her passing. Just why are we paying for the Lt. Gov. to have a lawyer though?

I don't know why everyone is ragging on Pete. He stated what seems to be the truth. She passed, sadly at a young age, on Wednesday the 25th, yet only at 8PM on the 26th after Dalton's announcement did it become news.

37 is much, much too young to go. Prayers to her family. I'm sure she will be greatly missed.

It's a tragedy to have a young successful black woman pass so young. Not only for the family, but to the many African American youth that need real role models. Hopefully, she touched lives while here. Now, she is in heaven.... and if there are doubters about that....remember the book.....read the book..... 'Heaven is for Real'. God bless.

Deepest sympathy to this young ladies family. We all know that life is not promised to us but to lose someone so young with a promising future ahead is always a shock. My heart goes out to the family during this time or sorrow.
