Man Accused Of Greenville Murder Pleads To Lesser Charges

A man charged with murder will soon be going home without conviction, after the state offered a plea deal on lesser charges.

Willie Langley Jr., 25, was charged in Greenville with the September 2011 murder of 60-year-old William Cooper, a man many around town knew as "Bozo."

Langley plead guilty Monday to involuntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm by a felon, and common law robbery.

Langley received a sentence of 19 to 23 months active, but has been awaiting trial behind bars for more than 32 months.

Langley's defense attorney said this means Langley will be released almost immediately.

GREENVILLE (AP) -- A trial for a man charged with murder in Pitt County has been delayed a second time.

A judge granted the defense's request for more time to prepare for 24-year-old Willie Langley Jr.'s trial. It was supposed to start Tuesday after being first delayed in March. Prosecutors say the trial is now set for August.

Authorities say Langley shot and killed 60-year-old William Cooper outside his home during a robbery in August 2011.

Langley's case is one of 17 pending murder trials in Pitt County.

PREVIOUS STORY:

A man wanted for a murder late last month in Greenville is finally behind bars and will make his first court appearance Thursday.

Greenville police say they arrested Willie Langley, Jr. Wednesday afternoon at a mobile home park off Old River Road.

Langley was named last week as a suspect in the August 24th murder and robbery of William Cooper. The 60-year-old man was found dead in his car early that morning outside his home on Fleming Street.

The 22-year-old Langley is being held without bond.

I know his family and honestly I don't know if he did it or not but a lot of you all should be really ashamed wishing the death penalty on a person with whom you know nothing about or about this case. Whats so crazy is a lot of you wouldn't even be brave enough to say what you said up here to his family cause your behind a computer screen you got a little courage. I'm just going to keep him and all of "YOU" in my prayers because all of you need it. Whatever happens, happens but none of you have anything to do with it.

The case will get continued. That's how the local court system operates. No fair and speedy trial and no closure for victims and families.

I'm sorry you must prof read what you post. But then again you must have a high school education. Or at least one where the school didn't force you through just so you wouldn't drop out.

I think you meant "proof" read, not "prof" read. Don't be so judgmental, no one is perfect.

Ok so I miss spelled one word. I have complete sentences and correct grammar. At least you can understand what I am saying in my writing. It's not being judgmental. It’s simply seeing what has been posted. And it seems to be a reoccurring event.
