Man Who Tortured And Killed 4-Year-Old Girl Could Face Death Penalty

A jury in Johnston County has found a man guilty of charges stemming from the 2010 death of a 4-year-old girl.

Jonathan Douglas Richardson was on trial in the death of Teghan Skiba, who had been living with him and her mother in a barn behind the home of Richardson's grandparents. The jury returned its verdict on Tuesday.

Richardson could face the death penalty.

Authorities say Helen Roxana Reyes left her daughter in Richardson's care while she went to military training in New Mexico. The defense said Richardson had uncontrollable anger, causing him to lose patience and abuse Teghan.

The prosecutor said Richardson took pleasure in torturing Teghan. By the time she reached the hospital, her brain had swollen and she had lost more than half of her blood.

I've been following this case on Wral. Stories like this blow my mind. How stupid and irresponsible she is. What that poor little girl went through turns my stomach. Reyes should never be allowed to have another child and she most certainly should be charged with a stronger offense than neglect. She committed the crime too as far as I'm concerned. When it comes to crimes against children, the same horrible things should be done to the mutant animals that harmed these defenseless babies. SHE LEFT HER BABY GIRL WITH THIS MONSTER!! No excuse for that. None.

So, "only" neglect charges or will there be more??? Sounds like 2nd degree or manslaughter to me.

And yet, they're allowed to live among us and continue to breed!!! This one ought to be charged as an accessory to murder and tried accordingly. Install a trapdoor in the courtroom and aligators in the basement.

I think this woman should be charged with accessory in the death of this precious little girl. She herself said she feared this man, yet left her daughter with him in a place without decent living conditions no water, lights, etc. This precious little girl is now in Jesus Rocking Chair where she will never be hurt again. God Bless all the abused children, may they get help before death finds them too.

I can not believe that her maternal instinct would allow her to leave her child with a male that was not the father or a relative she knows. I WOULD NEVER have left my daughter over night let alone weeks and months even if I knew she would be okay. MOM SAW THINGS THAT WERE ABUSIVE and still put her child in danger. YOUNG PARENTS ARE A MAJOR DANGER TO CHILDREN THESE DAYS. That girl has a lot of family that she could have left the child with. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED.
