Authorities say one person was killed and three injured after a boat hit a platform near a marina in Southport.
North Carolina Wildlife Commission Sgt. Ben Meyer said 57-year-old Barbara Pierce died at a Wilmington hospital a short time after the crash around 9 p.m. Saturday.
Meyer says Pierce's husband was driving the 20-foot boat and was moving out of the way of another boat on the Cape Fear River when he hit a concrete pillar while going at least 25 mph.
Authorities say another boat rescued one person in the water, and a Coast Guard boat was able to rescue Pierce and two others who were on the platform.
Meyer called the crash an accident and says alcohol is not suspected.
