Tandy Dunn warned WITN about a scam artist who called asking for donations. He wants to make sure no one is duped by this scam.
Tandy said he got a call from someone claiming to be with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol PBA office. He was soliciting a donation to assist the troopers and "help yourself." The Highway Patrol in our state does not solicit donations; they are supported by tax dollars. The patrol also says some organizations may include the name "highway patrol" in it, but no money will actually fund the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
