Scam Alert: Co-Worker Charged With DWI

Scam artists sometimes exploit kindness and loyalty, which appears to be the case with a scam that recently in a hit restaurant in Cary.

The North Carolina Attorney General's Office says Bonefish Grill in Cary got a call from someone pretending to be a police officer. They said an employee, whom they identified by name, had just been arrested for driving while impaired. The officer said that person had asked police to call the restaurant, to see if they would wire money for bail. After some convincing, the restaurant did as the officer instructed, and sent $846 via MoneyGram, which they thought would bailout their co-worker. It turned out to be a scam; the co-worker was never arrested. The money went to the pockets of a scam artist.

Remember, when you wire money, you can't get it back.
