Two things are certain in life:death and taxes, as the Benjamin Franklin quote goes. You can guarantee the idea of late taxes can give some of us a deathly scare, and some scammers are apparently preying on that.
This warning comes from the Internal Revenue Service.
Scammers are duping people out of millions of dollars in a past-due tax scam.according to the IRS.
Scammers call people telling them they filed their taxes incorrectly and they owe the government money and must pay immediately or risk arrest.
Investigators have tracked more than $60,000 of these calls across the country since last October and scammers have collected more than $4million.
An IRS official said before the IRS ever contacts you over the phone, they send multiple notices in the mail and they never threaten to arrest people.
If you get such a call and suspect it's a scam, hang up and call your local law enforcement.
