SCAM ALERT: Fake Tech Experts After Your Personal Info

While technology can baffle us sometimes, now some crooks are taking advantage of your need for help.

Consumers have been reporting a suspicious call from a person who claims they are a specialist for a particular computer company or software brand.

Officials said those self-described experts are fakes who are stationed overseas with an eye on your personal information.

The scam starts when the "expert" says you have a virus or some other issue with your computer, and have you download software to fix the problem. Officials said that software is actually for them to access your computer, and therefore, your personal files like bank statements, passwords, and any other information stored on your computer.

If you get one of these calls, you can help bust the crooks by calling 1-877-5-NO-SCAM. Or, you can file a consumer complaint online by clicking here.
