Greenville police charged 5 people in what they say-- is the largest computer fraud case ever in the area.
Greenville police say the mastermind, Devin Hodges of Greenville, along with Jacob Wood, Charles Pace, Daniel Copeland, and Divina Grisby are accused of stealing serial numbers from Dell computers, and requesting products under the warranty to sell them. Officers say they brought in close to $720,000 in a span of 6 years from huge corporations like IBM Global to East Carolina University.
"Dell and I have gone back and we are still to this day contacting those victims (most of them are corporations) to let them know they still have the computers. They are not under warranty and they need to put the warranty back on the computer to be active," said Greenville Police Cyber Fraud Detective Frank Desantis.
If you think your warranty has been compromised you can call Dell's customer service number 1-800-624-9897.
