Officials in Havelock say the APX Alarm Security Solution Company, of Crystal, Utah has a license to go door-to-door to sell their product in Havelock. However, the city says they are getting complaints about the company's sales tactics.
If you are visited by APX and don't like their conduct or the questions the salesperson asks you, Havelock officials say you should get the name of the salesperson and contact the police department.
The city makes it clear in a news release that there is no affiliation between APX Alarm Security Solution and the Havelock Police Department. Also, there is no indication of any criminal wrongdoing by the company.
Here is an excerpt of one complaint the City of Havelock provided to WITN regarding the types of complaints they are receiving:
The only complaint I have is that the person who came knocking at my door somewhat misrepresented the intent of the visit. The individual did in fact show that he had the City of Havelock Privilege License; said he was a representative of the company noted & that they provided equipment for ADT; he wanted to ask if I wanted to view an updated version of the equipment in my home; he then presented me with a brochure showing a different security panel. While I was looking at the brochure he began to inform me that it would be cheaper to upgrade the equipment through their company rather than through ADT.
The salesperson also began to ask me questions about my system; this was my first FLAG. I thought immediately that if they provided the equipment for ADT then they should know how it is hooked up. My second FLAG was the statement about dealing directly with them vice ADT. I then informed him that I would not provide him any information and would not speak to him until I spoke with ADT to confirm that his visit was authorized.
He said he would return the next day, today at about the same time. That is my fourth FLAG, he did not return. My third FLAG was earlier today when I reached an ADT rep that confirmed that had I in fact spoken to them and signed any contract that I would no longer be with ADT but signing with a different provider.
I thought you should know that these solicitors appear to be somewhat misleading and citizens ought to be cautioned if they already have a home security system to check with their provider.
