Wayne County Sheriff Issues Citizens Alert Over Scams

Wayne County Sheriff Carey Winders issued a citizens alert that people in all counties can benefit from. Winders says sweepstakes and inheritance scams keep popping up, asking people to send in money with the hopes of getting a big payout. The sheriff says some businesses, getting wise to the scams, are refusing to cash checks they can tell are counterfeit. However, determined people take the checks somewhere else to cash.

Winders says one person has already lost $100,000 but still wants to send more money in hopes of collecting.

Sheriff Winders says you cannot win a contest you did not enter. Also, if you have an inheritance coming from a long lost relative, you're not going to hear about it through an email.

Any idiot can accumulate 100 grand or more. It's really not that difficult. America after all is the land of opportunity.
