The Better Business Bureau serving Eastern North Carolina says people are getting text messages that appear to be from banks, including Bank of America, the State Employees Credit Union and Wachovia, that try to get access into your account. These text message version of phishing emails is known as "smishing." The text will tell you your card has been frozen or deactivated, and tells you to call a number to reactivate it.
Remember: no legitimate bank is going to text you about your account. Don't respond to such "smishing" attempts.
