The Better Business Bureau is warning about fake Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac lotteries. Those two names have been in the news a lot lately in reference to the mortgage crisis.
The BBB says people are getting letters say the lotteries are "organized by all credited lending partners" and are to help people who lost their home get another chance.
The letter says you've won $5 million. A representative for the so-called lottery company tells you to wire $850 to a company in Las Vegas to collect your winnings.
Being asked to wire money is a major red flag. You can safely assume that the request to wire money in a scenario like this means you are the target of a scam.
