Virginia Bacon of Grifton emailed WITN about what she thought might be a scam, after her husband saw something similar on the WITN Sunrise Scam Alert. It's an overpayment scam, where someone who wants to buy a product says they need to send you a check for more money than your selling price, then you wire the rest back. In the email to Virginia, a person intersted in her digital camera wanted to know if she could be trusted to wire the money back. At that point, Virginia's husband saw the red flags and she stopped responding. Still, the person sent an email with instructions to wire the money. A few days later, the check for $2,500 showed up in the mail, which is far more than the asking price for Virginia's digital camera. Virginia says, she's not cashing it and hopes others can learn from her story.
