The heat has been turned up on North Carolina's health agency secretary by legislative leaders questioning whether her office can operate the department effectively and pull off Medicaid reform.
Legislators criticized Dr. Aldona Wos and the Department of Health and Human Services during Thursday's meeting of an oversight committee. They're unhappy with delays in getting information about Medicaid spending and unrealized savings in the program.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Brown of Jacksonville asked Wos why the legislature should have confidence in carrying out the Medicaid reform proposal unveiled last week.
Wos says the agency has made great strides in operating the department since she took over but that they've been waylaid by job vacancies and employee turnover.
