Wayne Bowers: Timing Of Resignation Coincidental

Outgoing Greenville city manager Wayne Bowers says the fact that he submitted his resignation a week after the police chief is nothing but coincidence.

Some have been questioning the timing of the resignations, even pointing out that Bowers hasn't been sitting next to the mayor at council meetings, as had been the case the entire time Pat Dunn was mayor.

Bowers announced his retirement Friday during the city council's planning meeting. This comes just one week after the Police Chief William Anderson said he was leaving to take the Police Chief job in Asheville.

Bowers told WITN that he submitted retirement papers about six months ago.

Councilmember Kandi Smith said, "I can't say there's a conspiracy theory or anything like that, but I just take it for face value and wish the police chief and the Wayne the best in their future endeavors."

The council will hold a public meeting at 6pm at city hall on January 30th to start to discuss how they will proceed with these new vacancies.
