At a time when low teacher salaries are in the spotlight, one local county has decided to give teachers more money.
For the first time in more than a decade, the Washington County Board of Commissioners passed a budget that includes a $600.00 teacher supplement for certified teachers.
The supplement covers 130 teachers and will be paid for using existing money, so no taxes will be raised.
Washington County is now no longer one of seven counties in the state that does not provide any teacher supplement.
