A federal judge wants to hear whether former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards is creating problems for his upcoming trial by hiring lawyers who represented his mistress in a lawsuit over the couple's sex tape.
The hearing scheduled for Thursday in Greensboro airs whether the lawyers have insider knowledge of Edwards' mistress Rielle Hunter. Alan Duncan and Allison Van Laningham represented Hunter in a lawsuit that ended last month with a settlement that orders all copies of the tape destroyed.
Federal prosecutors say they'll likely call Hunter as a witnesses at Edwards' trial starting next month.
Edwards is charged with campaign finance violations over nearly $1 million from two wealthy donors used to hide the pregnant Hunter as he sought the White House in 2008. He has pleaded not guilty.
