Tarboro is without a mayor today, after a man who has served the town for 32 years has stepped down.
Donald Morris handed in a letter of resignation Wednesday, shocking his staff.
The town manager says the letter was only two sentences long and gave no reason for his sudden departure.
Morris was first elected mayor in 1995, and before that was on town council starting in 1981.
The 71-year-old man told WITN that he has no health issues, but simply 32-years of serving the town was enough.
Morris already announced he did not intend to run for re-election.
