Early voting is underway for the Nov. 8 election, and two candidates for Morehead City's mayoral race are disagreeing on a hot topic for the city.

Incumbent Mayor Jerry Jones is being challenged by a city council member, David Horton. Jones has been Morehead City's mayor since 1999, and Horton has been on the city council since 2003. The two are publicly sparring over the PCS Phosphate sulfur melting facility project that outraged the Crystal Coast before the company dropped its plans.

Horton told the Carteret News Times that Jones kept Morehead City in the dark about the sulfur project. Jones countered that Horton had the same information he did.
