State Senate Approves Terminal Groins

The State Senate approved a bill Monday to permit new structures to prevent erosion on the coast. The measure about terminal groins now moves to the State House.

The measure would allow property owners to apply for permits to build terminal groins on the coastline in order to prevent erosion and protect beachfront property. Terminal groins jut out from the shore, perpendicular to the coastline.

A similar measure passed the State Senate in 2009 but failed in the House.
